Christ the King of Kings School<\/h3>\n

The Christ the King of Kings School is located in the harbor community of Jamestown in Accra. It\u00b4s one of two schools which is trying to support the children and to give them with education more perspectives for the future. Principal Emmanuel Ashie founded the school in 1996 as a chr\u00e9che mainly for the children of the fishermen in the neighborhood. Most of them cannot afford to pay these or any other school bills, so Ashie established a facility with free admission for these children. For his work he doesn\u00b4t get any governmental support.<\/p>\n

He started with only three children, first with a nursing part up till to a kindergarten school. It started growing, and first they sent the children to another school. Meanwhile he built up the school to primary sixth grade in 2005 and is hosting now about 150 students, two of them are disabled.<\/p>\n

The school depends on donations and external help. They have only 2 Cedis (=50 Cent) for the food per day for the children. There is not really budget left for paying the teachers and this makes it very difficult to find people who help or are willing to work at the school. At the moment they have 11 teachers at the school and some additional helping stuff who cook the meals.<\/p>\n

Principal Emmanuel Ashie is disabled and needs a electric wheelchair to get around. Nonetheless he puts all his time and effort into the school to help the children. He uses even his wheelchair for transportation and getting learning materials, food and medicine to the school.<\/p>\n

In an interview with HITA the principal and the health tutor told us about the problems the school is facing.<\/p>\n
