Our journalist G\u00fcnther Michels has been on the ground in Ghana since August 24 and spent the last three days at the Nursing and Health Assistant Training School in Teshie near Accra. This training center is also the workplace of Sandra Opoku, who participates in the HITA midwifery project and was in Germany from April to July 2014 as part of this exchange program. The school in Teshi is now the first institution to which HITA offers an opportunity to present itself on its own website. An own website does not exist yet, but is in progress. On the school profile, you’ll find photos of the school, a brief profile, introductions of students, faculty and staff, links to interviews and group discussions on the HITA Radio audio platform<\/a>, and a video of a tour of the school campus. The number of students has increased rapidly in recent years from 300 to 800 students, but the number of buildings, teachers and infrastructure in general has not been adjusted. Now teachers and students are faced with the problem of running classes of up to 200 students. The learning conditions are accordingly difficult. Classes are largely held outdoors under pavilions, but this makes it almost impossible to hold them in bad weather conditions But the school leaders are not letting it get them down and are building new classrooms with their own budget and providing their own support. Unfortunately, there is no other way or it will take several years. The number of students have increased from 300 to 800 in the last years rapidly by decisions of the ministry – but the amount of buildings, tutors and the infrastructure over all didn’t get adapted to that. Now the tutors and the students are facing the problems with having classes with about 200 students. The conditions are accordingly difficult. A lot of classes have to be outside under canopies, which makes it as well impossible to teach when there are no good weather conditions. But the principal doesn’t let the school and the staff down, they started constructing buidlings and class rooms with their own budget and they are trying to get support by their own. Actually there is no other way, otherwise it would take a lot of years. E-Learnig can and will take an important role in this development, it safes costs, can make the education and the teaching easier and will accelerate a lot of steps of the procedure. <\/p>\n
