18 January 2025 – Visit to our partner school and trip to Accra

We have been in partnership with Springs Preparatory School and Day Care since May 28, 2018. The principal, Mrs. Lawrencia M. Agbenyefia, knows this because she presented us with the school’s 25th anniversary booklet as a welcome gift. She proudly presented us with the page containing a report on our long-standing partnership.

As with every visit, we wondered how it is possible to teach 16 school classes and 4 kindergarten groups at the same time in such a warehouse with almost no partition walls. It works, as we see over and over again.

Unfortunately, we only had very little time during this visit, but we were particularly pleased to receive confirmation that all of our donated equipment: PCs and printers are still in operation. This is hard to believe under these circumstances (dust, heat), but it also shows how important and right our approach is to use well refurbished computers that are not only easy to maintain, but also easy to repair if necessary. We were surprised by the fact that some of our computers are used for other purposes. They are no longer used exclusively for administrative purposes, but are now also used in an e-learning center.

You may be wondering how we manage to publish our travel reports relatively promptly. First and foremost, there is our club member Marion Fellmann. She receives our reports daily and prepares them so that they can be published on the website and on social media. We would also like to take this opportunity to thank her warmly! Without her in the background, we would not be able to report promptly. Agwe!

In Ghana, we try to use every evening to write the daily report. Unfortunately, we sometimes have evening appointments, which makes it more difficult. That’s why we use every other opportunity to write. You can see what this looks like in the picture . The idea is a good one, because we have to travel long distances, which costs us many hours. So on Saturday it took us almost 6 hours to get from Ho to Accra; more than enough to write a report, theoretically.

Unfortunately, this rarely works in practice. The poor condition of the road and the many obstacles to control the speed usually make it impossible to write even one sentence. Nevertheless, we gave it a try .

After we finally arrived in Accra in the evening, we met our project partner Mensah Rex and his colleague Michael to discuss the next few days in Accra and to plan our meetings and activities. We realized how full the 2 and a half days in Accra would be. You’ll be surprised if we still manage to provide you with timely information about our trip.
