August 27 2025 – The Carlo Mierendorff School celebrates Ghana
Waffles, wheel of fortune and skills course. For the fourth time, the entire campus of the Carlo Mierendorff School in Frankfurt-Preungesheim is dedicated to the school partnership with Ghana. Pupils in today’s eighth grade collected and prepared ideas for a colorful schoolyard festival before the summer vacations.
Shortly after the summer vacations on August 27, 2025 and in bright sunshine, all the creativity of the integrated comprehensive school can be experienced. In the third and fourth periods, vouchers are handed out to pay for the hands-on activities, crafts and culinary delights.
I spin the wheel of fortune for a voucher and land on the main prize – free choice. A shower gel sample, a pencil or a notepad. I opt for a colorful pencil. My next stop: throwing cans. Two of us try to knock over the tower four meters away. We fail. One can remains standing. We realize that we need some refreshment. Tabouleh, a piece of cake, a waffle and a fruit drink. The selection is varied and delicious. After our refreshments, we stroll through the schoolyard.

Finally, we order individual bracelets made to order from colorful beads. The result is two “HITA bracelets”. You can look forward to them! You will see these bracelets again in our Advent and Christmas campaign.
After the second big break, it’s over for today. It’s time to dismantle and tidy up. The Carlo Mierendorff School is continuously expanding its school partnership with HITA and its partner school in Ghana.

In the upper secondary school, there are compulsory elective lessons on the geography of Africa in combination with active parts of the HITA project “Students4Students”. Here, pupils also learn how computers work, for example. In this way, the cooperation is rooted across many year groups and becomes more and more integrated into school life from year to year.
