07.09.2025 – HITA e.V. at the summer festival of the St. Wendel parish in Frankfurt-Sachsenhausen

It was warm on this beautiful late summer day on the church forecourt in Alter Schützenhüttengässchen in Frankfurt am Main – Sachsenhausen. Daniel Gerlach and Thomas Erkert had the opportunity to present various projects of HITA e.V. at the ecumenical late summer festival of the Catholic St. Wendel parish and the Protestant Dreikönigsgemeinde from the neighboring Bergkirche at the invitation of Reinhard Bok. It was a great festival with lots of helpers and culinary delicacies from (almost) all over the world. At the entrance, for example, Ukrainian women sold homemade pierogi, pizza and cakes. A second large cake buffet was available in the community hall.

The party provided an opportunity for many interesting conversations

As soon as we had set up our stand in the morning, the first visitors interested in our projects arrived. We had decided to present four of our projects in more detail:

  • Students4Students

HITA e.V. has installed more than 40 PC labs in Ghana in recent years. The computers in these labs are also being successively replaced and modernized by us. To do this, we need around 1,600 PCs and laptops, which are cleaned and refurbished by pupils from the upper school of a school in Frankfurt.

  • ICTGilrs4adigitalWorld

Girls in many rural areas of Ghana are still excluded from a modern education. There is little or no access to information and communication technology (ICT for short). We at HITA e.V. try to help these girls by training them to use the new information and communication technologies.

  • SanitaryPads4Women

The cost of hygiene products has exploded in Ghana in recent years. Many girls, students and teachers can no longer afford period products in particular, which usually means that they are no longer “allowed” to go to school or university or work during their menstruation. Helping people to help themselves: We want to produce sanitary pads ourselves. We are looking for sponsors to support this project by making a regular annual contribution. The project would also benefit greatly if you could donate older mechanical or simple electric sewing machines.

  • WhatsApp4Pregnantwomen+YoungMothers

Far too many unborn babies, infants, toddlers and young mothers die due to a lack of access to experts such as midwives and nutritionists. We want to reduce this mortality rate by enabling contact with medical professionals via smartphones. For this project, we are therefore looking for used smartphones that all too often end up in drawers. If you also have such treasures, please contact us (info@hita-ev.org).

IT experts exchange ideas to support HITA e.V.

We were especially pleased to have an interesting exchange of experiences with colleagues from the IT sector at this festival. With many exciting ideas and the prospect of future support, the summer festival came to an end for us in the afternoon. We would like to thank all the visitors to our booth for the many pleasant conversations and the valuable input we received. A special thanks goes to Reinhard Bok for the invitation and the opportunity to present our work at this late-summer festival in St. Wendel. We welcome every helping hand – at HITA e.V. everyone contributes their strengths for a spirit of togetherness and cooperation.
