14.09.2025 Installation and packing day at the Carlo Mierendorff School

Packing for Ghana – the support was fantastic and on a Sunday 😊 We organized a packing and installation day on 14 September 2025 to prepare a whole mountain of laptops and monitors for shipment to Ghana. Of course, this was preceded by a huge amount of work to procure the donations, e.g. laptops, tower PCs, clothing and fabrics.

Under the motto “Together we can do more”, Tanja, Steffi and Helen; Anna, Linda and Tina; Sabrina, Christos, Maria and Spiros; Caro and Klaus, Dörte, Petra, Anne, Daniel and Thomas met on Sunday to prepare the technical equipment so that it can soon be sent to Ghana and we can use it to support our projects on site.

In order to refurbish almost 600 laptops and 50 monitors so that they can be sent to Ghana in working order, it is important to follow various work steps. We have set up workstations for this purpose. First, all laptops and monitors are cleaned and then inventoried. This is not only important for the freight documents, but also for picking the equipment and later distribution and maintenance in Ghana. Because we are on a sustainable journey, it is not just about making the technical equipment available to our project partners on site, but also about working with it and maintaining the equipment for a long time.

After all equipment has been inventoried, all devices are technically tested and then pre-installed. This is the only way they can then be quickly set up and finally installed in the respective training rooms in Ghana. After installation, the equipment is picked and packed. The rules for safe sea freight packaging must be observed. Finally, the equipment is packed on pallets, wrapped in film and then temporarily stored in the basement of the Carlo Mierendorff School.

It's better together!

The technical inspection of computers, monitors, printers, etc. is quite time-consuming. It goes without saying that we only send technically flawless devices to Ghana.

We are always looking for IT-savvy people who enjoy helping us with technical functional testing, software installation and setting up networks, for example. We were grateful that Christos and Spiros helped us this weekend. Hopefully we will see them again soon. If you are also interested in helping us with the software installation, please contact us at geschaeftsstelle@hita-ev.org. However, we are not only looking for IT-savvy people, but anyone who would like to work on our projects 😊 Every helping hand is welcome in the HITA team. Everyone contributes their interests and strengths – together we can do much more than alone 😊

Daniel and Petra are a tried and tested tandem. The two of them also installed computers again at the weekend, so together we cleaned and inventoried all 570 laptops and 50 monitors. More than 120 laptops were checked and the software installed.

IT power! With the help of Christos and Spiros, it goes faster!

The picture does not show the hard-working helpers who sorted and packed our clothing donations in the cellar. As mentioned elsewhere, we are looking for old cotton T-shirts and simple electric or mechanical sewing machines for the “SanitaryPads4Women” project. As feminine hygiene products have become almost unaffordable for many women in Ghana, we are trying – together with our partner school in Ho – to make sanitary pads ourselves. The aim is to set up a self-financing, permanent production facility.

If you want to support us in our activities, please contact us at the known e-mail addresses: info@hita-ev.org or geschaeftsstelle@hita-ev.org or also by phone, directly to our board member Thomas Erkert at 0171-4772272. The next date to work on the computers is on Sunday, September 21 from 9.00 am. As always, we will meet at the Carlo-Mierendorff-Schule in Frankfurt am Main – Preungesheim. In addition to a warm team atmosphere, there will also be good coffee 😉 Together we are strong to do something good for others.
