Wow โ€“ we did it! An important milestone has been reached: this past weekend, we pre-installed our 500th computer โ€“ in fact, the 535th! These PCs will soon begin their journey to Ghana, where they will be used in HITA partner schools.

Our goal: to ship around 700 computers with the next container. In January, we will unpack and set them up together in the new computer labs at schools, colleges, and universities. Our project partners in Ghana are already preparing enthusiastically, as described in Juliusโ€™s report: ๐Ÿ‘‰ September 24, Equipping Students for the Digital Age at Kpedze High School | HITA e.V.

Whoโ€™s behind this success? This milestone was made possible by many dedicated people: teachers from the Carlo-Mierendorff School, their families, HITA members, friends, and supporters. Week after week, often on weekends, they invested their time and energy.

From the bottom of our hearts, THANK YOU to all of you! Without your support, we would never have reached this milestone.
๐Ÿ‘‰ Weโ€™ve already shared a report on your amazing efforts here: 14.09.2025 Installation and Packing Day at the Carlo-Mierendorff School | HITA e.V.

From Donation to Ready-to-Use Computer: Before a laptop or PC is ready for classroom use in Ghana, it goes through many steps:

  1. Securing donations and collecting them
  2. Transporting it to the PC room
  3. Receiving and visual inspection
  4. Classifying and sorting the equipment
  5. Cleaning
  6. Technical inspection and, if necessary, repair and/or upgrading
  7. Data deletion if storage media is present
  8. Inventory logging
  9. Installing free and open-source software

Finally, the final check is carried out โ€“ and the computer is ready for shipping. This picture shows what it looks like at that stage โ€“ of course, with the HITA startup screen ๐Ÿ˜‰

Securely packed for the journey: Once all devices are prepared, they will be:

  • finally tested for full functionality
  • assigned and organized for shipping
  • packed
  • securely palletized for sea transport
  • placed in temporary storage in the basement

On October 24, we will send our next container on its long journey to Ghana, celebrated with a big school festival at the Carlo-Mierendorff School.

At HITA, everyone contributes what they can. Together, we make it happen โ€“ step by step, computer by computer, future by future.
