Two teachers on their way to Ghana - Carlo Mierendorff to Mawuku

pr2

Teachers Petra Knott and Rachida Aouad from Frankfurt's Carlo Mierendorff School will be setting off on another trip to Ghana with HITA on December 27. During this second visit, the cooperation agreement between the two schools will be signed with the Mawuku School in the Volta Region. During an initial visit in April 2019, the two teachers already visited various local schools with HITA to select a partner institution. In the process, they got to know teachers and students, as well as the country and its people, taught themselves, were able to develop ideas for projects together with the other teachers, and fell in love with the fantastic Ghanaian food. After difficult and close deliberations, the choice for the partner school finally went to Mawuku Girls' Senior High School. A teacher exchange is planned for 2020 and Skype lessons between students in Ghana and Germany are to be created. The intercultural exchange between the students supports political and social science education, but also geography, history and especially the direct practical use of the English language. At the same time, students learn about each other's culture and society and practice communication skills.

The project started two years ago with presentations by HITA Chairman Thomas Erkert in the school classes. The students were immediately motivated, had creative ideas for participation and have so far designed their own various fundraising projects and action days. At the moment a donation of toys for Ghanaian pupils is on its way to Accra in the second HITA container, but money could also be collected with flea markets and bake sales.

HITA lays the foundation stones so that the students in Ghana can communicate with the students in Frankfurt. Our NGO installs the conditions for using the new technical possibilities, builds computer labs and internet or intranet connections. In one interview each, Petra Knott and Rachida Aouad talk about their first experiences in Ghana, the projects and the upcoming plans for the upcoming trip.

The guys have virtually "sacrificed" themselves for the project. For a small price you could buy water balloons and throw them at the brave targets.
The Frankfurt teachers taught the students in Ghana, as a thank you the students then taught Rachida and Petra a Ghanaian dance.
On one of the campaign days, the students even made a "Ghana cake" with icing in flag colors for the cake stand.
