Workshop in Accra!

The first stop of our two HITA experts Thomas Erkert and Karsten Gareis on their tour through Ghana was of course the capital Accra. Christopher Beyere from the Ministry of Health (MOH) acted as host and organized the upcoming procedures and planning with his team. Robert Kaba, a post-doctoral fellow and assistant to Christopher Beyere, acted as a direct contact in the collaboration. On the agenda was a visit to the University of Ghana in Legon, a suburb of Accra. For the proposal, Professor Irene Agyepong and Dr. Daniel Kojo Arhinful were recruited to participate in the project. Both of them, after presenting the potential project and the research approach, showed great interest in collaborating on the proposal. Your questions, suggestions and ideas were very helpful in improving the proposal text. The visit to a call center that operates a medical emergency hotline and to the Ridge Hospital in Adabraka in Accra certainly provided important insights. The facility is a "Municipal Hospital", serves primary care and has a huge OPD (Outpatient Department), i.e. an outpatient clinic for simple treatments. However, the most important part in Accra was to conduct a workshop that would serve as an information session for pre-selected and invited individuals. This was attended by 7 school principals and 15 representatives of other institutions. Participants were very interested in the approaches and see it as an opportunity to improve the education of nurses and midwives.
